Daycare Week this week

Before the Memorial Day weekend, one of the new moms in our office was commenting that packing for a baby can be such a chore — more so since you have to bring so many things.  I’ve been through those days when I would go to the pediatrician without his immunization record, one time I left without fresh diapers — but even taking him to daycare these days is a breeze now as I grab his first aid medication (allergy meds, hydrocortisone), his diapers, wipes, and his lunch.. change of clothes.. we’re good to go.

Even preparing for the long trip was easier and more mechanical now.  We survived Memorial Day weekend at Sesame Place with no luggage mishap.  After that trip to Manila, we can hack any trip going forward!

My Date with Elmo

Summer’s just around the corner and most of the theme parks have opened for the season.  We’re hitting Sesame Place first this year — the first in a series of visits throughout the season.  Can’t wait to see the look on Angel’s face when we visit the newly-opened Elmo’s World portion of the park which their website is boasting as a new addition.  Even if it rains, the shows themselves would be worth the magic.  Anything for our baby..

Working from home taking care of the tyke

He’s basically left me alone so I’ve been able to attend to work and even do this blogpost.  (I think I spoke too soon.. he just started asking for attention.)

One of the major challenges of having a child here in the US is childcare.  Unlike in Manila where we would’ve had a yaya for sure, I’m left to take care of Angel here and I’ve been lucky to have Mommy help me out.  Alas Mom’s back in Manila for a respite, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed she will be back soon to stay a year this time around.

Meanwhile, I’m connected to the office via our SameTime client (a chat software we employ internally) and Lotus Notes.  I’m lucky to have a very understanding boss.. I’m trying to be careful about not wearing him down though.. hopefully not.

A 10,000 mile journey home and back

Angel on the flight from New York to Seoul, Korea where we connected to Manila on April 20, 2006

We arrived last Saturday at 8PM, I am back at work fighting jetlag, and Angel is back at our back up childcare facility not too far from where I work.  He was not exactly a doll during the flight, but considering it was his first plane ride and it was just him and me on the way to Manila, he did very well.  Alan and his grandma were with us on the return trip and we made it home in one piece.  He had his moments, but he was just being the baby he was.  That’s my big boy, now with much less hair but still my baby!
